Western Carolina University Health and Human Sciences Building
This new construction, five-story classroom facility is 160,000 square feet with a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver goal. The building features a roof-top rain garden, six sand-filters and one bioretention pond to collect storm water. During design, three archeological areas were discovered on the 20-acre site that required protection during construction. CALYX designed 1,600 linear feet of water main and 400 linear feet of sewer outfall, site grading, storm water and road widening. Due the site’s mountainous terrain, the project’s 340 parking spaces were terraced on four levels.
