CALYX partnered with the design team, providing site/civil engineering for the 577,000-SF Justice Center complex in downtown Raleigh. CALYX provided design, calculations, drawings, and specifications for the courthouses, office/meeting spaces, and the 420-space parking deck below the building as well as associated site work for the one-city-block site. The project required detailed coordination with the City engineering staff and the City’s consultants regarding roadway, drainage, and utility improvements. Additional project elements included rough grading, demolition, site utilities, grading, and storm drainage.

The Justice Center was designed for LEED Silver Certification. Environmentally-friendly features include pollution prevention, water efficiency with all systems, refrigerant management, storage and collection of recyclables, improved indoor air quality, safer building construction materials and products, use of natural daylight versus powered light, use of recycled stormwater for irrigation, bike racks, and digitally controlled thermostats.

In July 2013, the project was delivered six months early and $30 million under budget at $149.5 million.
