Morrisville, NC

CALYX is responsible for the design of this pedestrian trail which is a four-foot-wide mulch path that contains a pre-fabricated, dual laminated wooden pedestrian bridge 35 feet in length. This facility connects the client’s 55 TW Alexander Drive property to the adjacent location on East Cornwallis Road.

CALYX’s scope of services include coordination with the pre-fabricated bridge company for the pedestrian structure as well as design review and recommendations for the bridge placement on the site. Our structural engineers provided a list of potential impacts to the site, which includes a flood plain, that would potentially be affected by the structure. They also designated the foundation structure and reviewed the preliminary hydraulic analysis to ensure the structure would be sufficient to withstand various environmental factors. During the design development and construction document phase, CALYX’s civil group generated the necessary storm drainage, stormwater controls, stormwater quality and quantity reviews, erosion control plans, and specifications. Our civil engineers are also assisting the client with submitting documentation needed to obtain site plan approval for Development in a Special Flood Hazard Area and a FEMA No-Rise Certification, as well as coordinating with Durham County for all necessary approvals.
