Raleigh Union Station
CALYX provided site structural and civil engineering design for this passenger train station project for the City of Raleigh and NCDOT. The design consisted of re-purposing a GoTriangle-owned industrial building which has been vacant since 2005. The 26,000-SF building provides 9,200 SF of passenger waiting and civic space. Complex site design issues included ensuring pedestrian safety while making accommodations for vehicular and rail movement. CALYX provided the structural design of new platforms, canopies, and the concourse connecting the station to platforms. CALYX also designed the underpinnings of the surrounding building foundations. Clearscapes Architects and the project team were recognized by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) with the Extra Mile Award, recognizing that the team went beyond the call of duty in providing outstanding leadership and service to NCDOT.
