CALYX provided site/civil and building structural design as well as surveying services for this three-story, 325,000-SF health care center located on 40 acres near the existing VA Hospital in Fayetteville, NC. The facility provides primary care, specialty care, day surgery, audiology, pharmacy, and radiology services as well as an eye clinic. The Center achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification. CALYX’s structural engineers provided the design of the building’s structural support as well as retaining walls, canopies, and smoking shelters. The structural system for the building is composed of a composite steel frame with concrete fill on metal deck for gravity loads and steel braced frames to resist lateral wind and seismic loads. CALYX’s structural engineers also designed the structure to prevent progressive collapse by utilizing the tie force method.

CALYX’s site/civil engineers were responsible for grading, utility extensions, storm water quantity and quality engineering, erosion control design, road widening design, site plan approval, and permit coordination. The site includes 1,850 parking spaces, a healing garden, and a Veterans Memorial.
