High Point, NC | Moser Mayer Phoenix

When the city of High Point faced serious space and clearance issues at the terminal, a solution that was sensitive to the history of the structure and the tight purse strings of the recession was needed. The existing terminal building did not meet the space requirements for current and future use and the canopy clearance was too low for the bus fleet.

Rather than demolishing both structures and building new or relocating the terminal to a new site, the design team raised and reused the existing canopy while designing a new terminal building that includes a large, charming, two-story open waiting area. Allowing the City of High Point to reuse the existing site prevented the need for an expensive land purchase and the displacement of residents from their homes or businesses. It also allowed Hi Tran riders to maintain their existing routes and stops, avoiding rider confusion.
